Ah yes, the old Baikal. Let's just say it may have sprung its last. Recent practice in the garden and an almighty "twang" signalled not only the end of the session but also the end of the rifle. Shame, as it was a nifty wee thing, but it'll have to be До свидания товарищ [dasvidaniya tovarish] as I doubt it'll be worth repairing. Springs and piston seals are still available in the UK, just done one myself!!!

I'm not really sure what's wrong with it and doubt I've the necessary nous to do a repair in any case. If anyone fancies a tinker with it I'll gladly entrust it to more experienced hands!

I'm inclined to say no but, on reflection, the way the spinners are laid out on the dedicated lane, they're right beside the distance markers so everyone has a more or less equal reference for distances. Which pretty much makes any figure from an LRF redundant. The Ballistic Calculator doo-dah is different though. I trust you to have that feature switched off but how long would it be before mutterings about expensive gear giving an unfair advantage were heard? What do those of you who are going to take part think? Yeah, that's fine with us. I'm sure we'll all use our discretion. Frankly, I doubt we'll be troubling the upper echelons anyway...!

Thanks Erni - I'll get the table updated when time allows.
Good to see an improvement in scores and someone having a go with a springer. I've just stuck a mil-dot scope on my old HW77 for this as I didn't fancy my chances with a 30/30 Duplex reticle.

Two tables from now on as Malcolm has opened the Springer side of things. Good to see Erni and Ken shooting a bit straighter and Callum nudging a 10/10. There's also a new rule where anyone shooting a 10/10 with a Springer gets a round of applause from all present on the range - no exceptions!

All change at the top in the PCP comp. Erni rolled two eights in the last couple of weeks and now sits at the head of the table. Nick H and myself broke out the springers to good effect while Malcolm built on his first round score. Norrie is clearly biding his time and waiting to strike while Chris W is tied up with the business of renewing memberships and generally overseeing things - let's make some time so you can actually get some shooting in, Chris.

…while Chris W is tied up with the business of renewing memberships and generally overseeing things… Is my ol’ mucker having to take on too much?

Don't know if it's too much but it is a lot. I can never guarantee making it to Denwood but I'll try and ease the load with guided tours when I can.

More scores in and the first 10/10 with a springer.
Details to follow...

It seems that the regulars are getting into the swing of things with an upward trajectory to the scores and Erni and Ken are on track for their first 10/10 rounds. The Springer side of things saw Nick R have a crack with a respectable 8/10. However, Malcolm upped his game for the first 10/10 with his HW95 (which never shot that accurately in Tony's hands) and got a round of applause for his efforts. Malcolm showing the namby-pamby PCP shooters how it's done.

Malcolm upped his game for the first 10/10 with his HW95 Hey Malcolm, bloody good shooting. Are you up for shooting HFT at Waulkmill? There is a springer class in HFT and judging by your 10/10 you’d have done extremely well at the recent UKAL competition. You don’t need a shooting mat, but one would keep you cleaner and drier. You’ll be able to share one with the other members if you don’t have one. Any Sunday, from about 10:00 to as late as you want, all for £5. Bring some food and drink with you.

Randomly from 5 to 45m as Erni sees fit.

Just received two scores this week (thanks Erni) and both of them for the Springer comp. No idea what went wrong with Malcolm's shooting, an outstanding 10 previously followed by a middling 6 this week. I recommend practice followed by a martini or two - works for me. Nick R shot more consistently with another 8. Fingers crossed that I can take part in both PCP and Springer comps this coming Wednesday, especially as my '77 is now sporting a new Hawke 3-9x40 with those new-fangled mildot things, the previous 1980's vintage 30/30 scope having become erratic and the cheapo SMK stopgap replacement having ridiculous dots with the zero distances of the crosshairs and first dot being 25 & 50m.
