Some rules. Feel free to suggest more.
Any rifle, any calibre.
Any sights except those with Laser Range Finders and/or Ballistic Calculators.
Shoot seated with rests/bipods and only from the R/H-most lane - reserved for this competition only.
10 shots at five, orange painted spinners (two shots per spinner.)
A point for a hit, zero for a miss. Solid hits only please – a wobble from the breeze of a near miss pellet isn't good enough.
No plinking or practice shots on the orange spinners – they're for the competition only.
10 rounds over the course of 2023, shoot one round per week whenever you fancy.
And that's about it. The idea is to keep everything simple and straightforward – nobody needs to go and buy more kit as, if you've got a scoped rifle (and who hasn't?) then you're ready to take part.
Some other points.
Get someone to witness/count your shots/score. 10 isn't much but you'd be surprised how many people lose track under competition conditions. Set your pellets out first or only load 10 if you're using mags.
Inform me (if I'm there!) of your score. Alternatively, drop me a line at garcweb@outlook.com or post here.

Hi Bri M, please can you add the kids and me to the list: Nick (no. 52), Katherine (67) & Alex (68). [Our member numbers will probably be quite close to our scores...!] We won't be down for the next three weeks due to other commitments but will see you in April sometime. Many thanks!

Welcome aboard y'all - I'll add your names to the role call shortly.
Your Air Arms S410 will do very nicely for this comp. 👍
Not so sure about the dinky little Baikal springer though. 🤔

Ah yes, the old Baikal. Let's just say it may have sprung its last. Recent practice in the garden and an almighty "twang" signalled not only the end of the session but also the end of the rifle. Shame, as it was a nifty wee thing, but it'll have to be До свидания товарищ [dasvidaniya tovarish] as I doubt it'll be worth repairing.

It begins.
The first shots have been fired and more names have been taken - watch this space for details.

And we're off! The spinners were set out by Erni on Wednesday evening and, with the weather being a bit damp and dull, it was considered inadvisable to put in competition scores under those conditions. However, impatience to get going won out over wisdom and I broke out my seldom seen AA S400F, shot my first round and got 9/10 with the miss being on one of the 45m targets. If this 10m shooter can do that in dreich weather then surely the 50m regulars should have no problems getting a full house. Erni was still getting to grips with his new FX so didn't have a go but he'll be having a crack next week. As will newly enlisted Bill and Calum who'll be bringing along suitable rifles. Springer men Nick H and Norrie also looked keen to have a go but, by that time, the light was really fading and discretion is the better part of valour... Maybe next week. If the two of them sign up, I'll create a separate table for Springers and use my even more seldom seen HW77 as well. Could even create a new rule where a clear 10/10 round with a Springer gets a standing ovation. A bit sparse on the score front but it may be the only time I'm top of the table so I'll take that.

Woohoo I'm definitely up for trying this. As we have to shoot with a witness, could I use one of my pest control scope-equipped rifles, providing I don't press any buttons and therefore don't use any funcy LRFs or BCLs? Not asking for a friend. Cheers. Russ

I'm inclined to say no but, on reflection, the way the spinners are laid out on the dedicated lane, they're right beside the distance markers so everyone has a more or less equal reference for distances. Which pretty much makes any figure from an LRF redundant.
The Ballistic Calculator doo-dah is different though.
I trust you to have that feature switched off but how long would it be before mutterings about expensive gear giving an unfair advantage were heard?
What do those of you who are going to take part think?

While I agree that the use of Laser Range Finders should be excluded, to level the playing field and give everybody a fair shot, Im not really bothered by it given that the spinners are positioned next to the distance markers which can be used for distances references.
As for mutterings; given that it is human nature, they will most likely occur anyway .

I'm definitely in. I'll start shooting when I'm back from home. Thank you for this opportunity for good fun.

You're more than welcome Jean - all you'll need is your Air Arms 400 and some pellets.
A few more shooters took part last night (with some unexpectedly varying scores) and there's enough interest for a separate springer comp too. I'll get an updated table posted sometime this weekend.
Interestingly, we had a deviation from the stated rules and let someone shoot with a digital PARD scope. It didn't prove to be an automatic advantage so there'll be a rewrite coming soon.

Week 2 and I'm still top of the table! And not just because I started first. A little surprised at Erni, Ken and Bill's scores - thought they would have been higher but there you go. More interest has been expressed in a separate Springer table so that'll be going ahead. There's nothing to stop you shooting in both PCP and Springer comps on the same night. Or alternate weekly between the types if you like.

I’m racking my brain to come up with a bad excuse, but there is none! Nobody or anything to blame other than myself.

Try harder to think of some Erni - I've got some crackers lined up for my Pistol League performance this year!
