Hi folks,
I just got my renewed air weapon certificate through and noticed two changes to the special conditions - would be keen to understand if anyone else has had the same changes applied.
My original AWC had an additional condition that stated:
My new AWC arrived today and had this new and different condition:
“5. The air weapon shall be used for the shooting of all lawful quarry, and for zeroing and practice on ranges and land, over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot."
“5. The air weapon shall be used for target shooting on ranges suitable for the safe use of that class of air weapon and with adequate financial arrangements in place to meet any injury or damage claim.”
- Does it prevent me from shooting HFT at Walkmill? Is Waulkmill an official range or just private land?
- It implicitly makes me responsible for deciding whether the range where I shoot is, "suitable for the safe use of that class of air weapon” - how am I to know?
- It now and for the first time makes it an obligation of the license (and hence of using the air weapon) that I must have, "adequate financial arrangements in place to meet any injury or damage claim”.
I don’t recall seeing any announcements or Scottish government decisions indicating that the air weapon community would have new conditions imposed as part of the license. Is anyone else seeing these new conditions?
I seem to recall that GARC has club insurance through its membership in one of the Scottish air rifle/pistol associations. How do I go about confirming that the GARC insurance satisfies this new license condition given that I'm now personally responsible for checking this?
