Talking to Chris about the Ultras, had to think about silencers. In my mind the USP of the Ultra is the shortness; the silencer goes against that. But, they are loud.
I took the silencer off the HW110 and put it on the Ultra. Wow, light bulb moment - (1) the Ultra and the HW110 are very similar in size, the HW110K even more so, and (2) with the silencer on the Ultra it is as quiet as the HW110.
Did a chrono shot string. This particular Ultra does not have a power curve (initial fill 190barg), just a slow decline over forty shots then a quicker drop off. Starting muzzle energy 10.2 reducing to 9.6 after forty shots. I did notice a shift in POI with the silencer on, so I’m going to repeat the chrono string.
Accuracy and consistency is very good. With me shooting it, better than the HW100 and the HW110, but worse than the Mk4is.
Ergonomics aren’t quite right for me (better than the HW100T). The comb is too low, the scope can’t go much lower (I nipped my thumb between the bolt handle and the eye bell). I picked up a 2ndhand beech stock that I’ll modify to increase the comb height.
The tactile interface isn’t bad, but, the force to cock the rifle is high, the trigger is indistinct (maybe a bit of a fiddle will improve it) and magazine is not the easiest to load. The action “clunks” rather than “slides”, but I can live with it.
Future plan: 1. Modify beech stock to increase comb height, refinish and paint black 2. Try to improve trigger feel 3. Fit a silencer 3. Get costs to fit a longer cylinder and regulator

The trigger can be tuned into a lovely creation but why didn't you just get a scorpion instead of an ultra?

The trigger can be tuned into a lovely creation but why didn't you just get a scorpion instead of an ultra? It was a spur of the moment decision to buy an Ultra. I saw some YouTubes with impressive accuracy being achieved, liked the lightness and fancied a .22 pcp. I considered the S200, but I had one and sold it, so took that as a sign. I've read that Scorpion/Ultra question a lot. It a very good one... so I'll attempt to answer it: I like flat power curves, and regs seem the best retro fit way to achieve that (the Diana Bandit being a case-in-point). I was considering "while fitting a reg why not also a lightweight slightly longer cylinder (like the Airtech ones)?" - you know, same length as the barrel (with silencer). But then again, why invalidate the Ultra USP by looking for extra shots! The Ultra's not a MK4is, but then nothing I've experienced is (even the FTP900 I have and the Steyrs and Walthers I've tried). I'm hitting 15mm spinners at 26yds 9 out of 10 times with the Ultra, so I'm not too shoddy with it. Possibly raising the comb will help me improve (as will getting more familiar with it). I've bought four airguns recently - probably as a reaction to the COVID-19 restrictions. I bought two HW30 and been surprised by how much I like them (particularly the German market "F" version). I bought the Diana Bandit and after fitting the reg I prefer it to my other pistols. I like the Ultra (even with what I think are its faults), I can see me keeping it as I enjoy shooting it. Trigger - any hints how to get a definite, very light let off, but secure 2nd stage? I don't expect MK4is or FTP900 standard, but somewhere close would be the target.

Well, after strategically ‘dremeling’ away a bit of the 2ndhand wooden stock (cutout for the safety was on the wrong side) and getting a longer stock screw, the Ultra is no longer a tactical version. Good fortune - the comb on the wood stock is higher - solving a problem I highlighted earlier.
Now, do I live with the light battle scars on the stock or refinish it in black?
Also fitted the Nikko Stirling Panamax on BKLs (see thread “Odd Scope Mounting Problem”) and will see if the problem is solved.

Same problem with the Nikko Stirling on BKL mounts - looking like a scope problem. I'm going to reset the scope to mechanical centre and transfer it (still on the BKLs) to the MK4is to see if the aim is the same ( Odd Scope Mounting Problem thread updated). Conducted two chrono strings starting at 220barg, one with silencer and one without. Not a lot of difference in terms of fps see below: Chrono string 14-10-20.docx (23.16 KB) - fpe range 10 to 10.6. Average over 50 shots is 10.3fpe with JSB RS 13.43gr pellets. Before I try to increase that by about 1fpe I'll get some heavier pellets as that can result in higher fpe with PCPs
- The flatness of the power curve means a regulator is not necessary. It also means I'll keep the Ultra USP by not fitting a longer cylinder - hmmm, maybe BSA got it right!!!
- It uses about 2barg per shot - if pressurised to the max (232barg) there be maybe 5 or 6 more shots per fill.
This is turning into more a science project than a shooting experience.

Well, I didn't expect that. The .22 pellets are bending the paddle of the spinners - I'll take some pictures tomorrow (damn, looking at the time - today). Thousands of .177 pellets and apart from paint removal there was no impact damage, whereas a few hundred .22s and they're bent! I'll have to set the chrono up just in front of the target to see the difference in energy retained by the pellets.

This one is after less than 200 .22 hits I was aiming at this one during the three chrono strings This one after thousands of .177 hits They swing freely, so very surprised the paddle has bent.

I don’t have a HW110K to photo. The BSA and Weihrauch (UK) websites indicate: Ultra SE - length 82cm, barrel 30cm, weight 2.6kg. 110K - length 80cm, barrel 31cm, weight 2.7kg. Strangely, spec tables in the Weihrauch DE website and catalogue don’t cover the carbine version. And... the HW110K has the silencer (in the UK)! It must be wee.

I googled the length of the HW110K and it came up as 88cm (or thereabouts.) Don't know if that includes the length of the silencer/moderator because I stumbled across a review by Mark Cammochio and lost the will to go on.
Think I'd much rather have the Ultra over the HW110K.
