Greetings,
While cleaning out the house of my wife’s deceased relative, we found a BSA Mercury MK1 break barrel springer which was produced in the early seventies.
The main problem is that it does not cock all the way (therefore I have also not been able if the trigger functions properly).
I’m wondering if it is worth restoring and as I have never restored (or serviced) an air rifle before I’m open to any advice and comments. Erni.

Nice find!
Looks complete and externally ok - usual chipped paint on the trigger block and some small dents in the stock.
Nothing you can't handle.
It's possibly a bit horrible inside but wouldn't think it's unsavable though.
So yeah, go for it and remember that there's plenty of info and guides out there and our own Capt. Chris W is a font of knowledge on classic BSAs.

Nice! An easy one to do, and going by the pictures - its in a nice condition.
Bring it to Denwood next week and we can have a chat. You got a good basic air rifle to start playing, learning and working on. The costs will be low for any (if needed) bits and bobs replacement parts, to get this older gun up and running again. Some times they just need a a little bit of TLC and a good clean and greasing. You wont know until you screw off the trigger housing and get inside this beastie. If you are going to unscrew the trigger block off before next week, beware!!! Spring power and to start off the unscrewing, a rubber mallet is useful to start it off, as on my Airsporter's and Mercury's they lock up very tight. It maybe that the block is not tight or in line and this is one reason why it is not cocking.
