A very short bit on the day.
I put this at the bottom - but it needs more prominence "Oh, and unsafe gun handling was horribly frequent, with many shooters being spoken to about it!!!!"
A big thank you to the marshalls.
Bright, dry and a little windy. The 'Top' course was no push over with highest score being 57 - it would have been lower if three targets hadn't been pulled due to malfunction, which meant everyone was assured of 6 points for those targets. I don't have the results, if my memory is correct, Alex was highest GARC scorer.
Next UKAL comp at Waulkmill will be middle August.
Oh, and unsafe gun handling was horribly frequent, with many shooters being spoken to about it!!!!

Ah Yes the wind was indeed tricky, and caught many people out. It was not blowing a gale or was it a gentle breeze. It seems to most of us that every time you pulled the trigger the wind would drop or increase at that very moment, the Top Course is a bit of a bugger to compete on at any time of the year!! Some may say that its an easy course to shoot, yet no one has ever got a clear round yet...60 out of 60!
Thank you to all the Safety Marshals. Gun safety as reported by Who! was indeed wanting by some. By just a few visitors, who know better (it only takes one mistake to hurt someone), and thanks to our safety marshals who were on the ball, these events were quick and safely dealt with, there and then in the manner required for the incident without further action being taken. Barr one!.
I cannot be, but very disappointed by the lack of thought in this incident I am going to mention. I bring it to your attention because can you believe it happened? Tgt 21 "Brian the snail - up in the tree (Named after the Magic Round-about character and not our well known Bri, from this forum and Denwood)"
While a target checker was up a ladder (after a cease fire had been called and confirmed by all!) and investigating as to why this target did not fall down on a claim of a direct hit to the bullseye, one of the competitors at this target and on the firing point decided to lift his rifle and look through the scope to see if the obstruction / problem had been cleared. Pointing his weapon directly at the target checker on the ladder...derrrrr, what a idiot, first class useless tool (in my head I am using other words to describe this person). After getting a rollicking from Steve Ludlow and very very lucky that he was not sent off the course, for breaking the number one rule of our sport!! "Never point a loaded or unloaded weapon at a person"..... This was no accident, but total lack of understanding gun safety . I am not going to say anything more on this incident, as it has now been passed to the visitors club to deal with. Here endif the lesson.OK, how did GARC do...Well not to bad at allWinners.22 Bill McConnachie 33 (Only .22 Shooter in comp, but you got to be in it to win it.)Recoiling Stuart Gordon a great 50OthersOpen class: Alex - a cool 53 but not alas a 60 on this easy course?, Colin Thomson 48 (Well Done), Martin 44 (claims he was having a bad day? But that wind was a problem.) Golden Oldies Chris Ward 48 2nd place in my class. (Most enjoyable HFT Shoot I have ever had with Dam good company in my shooting party, but not my best score)Paul Bates 38, Kept singing behind the Green Door by Shaking Stevens and got the rhythm wrong on pulling the trigger. Thanks to: Steve, Tony and our Teri for the Marshalling and anyone else that aided in this event, and of course the chaps that built the course - a job that is often forgotten about. Stuart Gordon receiving his first place trophy (Recoiling) from a bemused Waulkmill Soup Dragon "our Teri". It would seem that Stuart has handled a similar type of Trophy before, going by the way he is holding it?.....but much smaller! It would have been nice to see more members of our club at this event to help or take part in this National Competition

That would be a Tuesday then!!! must have missed that comp due to it being a work day. Fancy HFT holding a comp on a Tuesday?
October 11, 2016 was the 285th day of the year 2016 in the Gregorian calendar. There were 81 days remaining until the end of the year. The day of the week was Tuesday.
