That was a shock. 119 members and only 5 people at Denwood on a Wednesday evening. Add that to the 3 people at Waulkmill on Sunday and 2 people the Sunday before and you've got to ask yourself where is everybody and is subsidising a 4th night at Denwood a sound investment? Asking for a friend

10 people at Waulkmill this Sunday and 9 the week before that, not bad for this time of year, didn't see you there?

Assuming an £18 shortfall every time, a rough as hell, worst case/extreme back of a fag packet calculation means that shooting at Denwood on the second Wednesday of every month would drain the Club's (existing at this moment and never topped up with new membership/range fees) bank account to zero in 19.7 years.
We should not lose sight that the funds in the Club's bank account are there to serve the membership.
The members are not here to serve the bank account.
Long may shooting every week continue.

I very rarely visit Denwood cos my interest lies mainly in HFT and, as Tony says "it`s a long way to travel" That said, I have no problem with Denwood continuing as is.
During Covid numbers were down and GARC made up the balance of range fees on the basis of when things return to normal, shooting numbers increase to where there is a surplus, above the range fees, which is then paid into GARCs bank account. So instead of all this Negativity, would it not be better to suggest ways of making the numbers increase, We have masses of members mainly due to Police Scotland insisting (Though they totally deny this)that new applicants for "Air Weapons" tickets belong to an air rifle club. So we have lots of members who are there just to get a license, they don`t shoot with us so presumably are out there holding up Banks

Bare in mind that the observed numbers are a reflection of what was witnessed at the moment of the visit. Denwood is open from 18.00 to 21.00 and members come and go during that timeframe. With the exception of a few diehards, hardly anybody is there for the full duration of the opening times. At closing time, the attendance sheets paint a different, and more accurate, picture.

Exactly, arrive at Waulkmill at 10 am, you will find 2 people, arrive at 12 noon you have 10 and sometimes even more arrive in the afternoon. I am happy with the attendance at Waulkmill, we could always welcome more, but, going back to the glory days of high attendance, what happened to all those shooters, was it something we said?

Its probably a combination of factors; including the previous mentioned comment about people just joining to obtain a licence, the aftermath of COVID (people loosing interest / taking up other hobbies). the weather (not eveybody undergone artic / cold weather training), increased costs (fuel, pellets, etc), changing work / family circumstances, and everything else in the kitchen sink!

I can say, that most, if nearly not all new members are shooting at both sites more than some of our longer serving members, yes we have had one or two apply just for a license. But not as many as the banter about this subject is put around the club. We have a policy of 6 shooting visits a year as a minimum to maintain membership within the club in a yearly period. Thanks to Steve Ludlow efforts this is now recorded on a computer print out, and this information is being used on renewals of Garc membership and by the Police when members renewal their AWL, or non-members claiming that they are active members of Garc. So far, I am aware of 5 former members whom claimed to still be members of Garc (and were not) having had their AWL refused for renewal by the Police fire arms officers after checking with the club as to their attendants and membership. The facts are in the range logs, and its is looking good. Plus not all are members are all weather shooters. Some have mats to lay on in case their shooting outfits gets mucky, maybe one or two of you are worried about breaking a nail out in the wilds of Waulkmill (a manly shooting ground) , or getting their gun dirty? Or could it be? Just the time of year?? Cold, wet, windy and dark....Summer is coming. My congratulations To I, for starting this wind-up / sorry debate and with so many replies to your post I am sure you are laughing
