All GARC members, A Dark o'clock (night) shoot at Waulkmill, utilising the Bottom Course, will be held on Saturday night 19th November 2022. Start time is 5pm, with a safety brief at 4:45pm. You can of course come earlier and use the plinking range to get use to shooting in the dark and estimating distances by torch light. We'll be using score cards and they be added up at the end of the evening to see who knocked over the most. If you don't want the pressure of competition, don't bother with a score card and just have some fun. For those who haven't shot in the dark at Waulkmill, the course takes on a new and interesting atmosphere that, unless you are scared of the bogeyman, I'm sure you'll enjoy. So the preparation work won't be in vain, please let me know if you intend coming along. Regards GARC Committee ---------------------------------------- With the Night Shoot fast approaching, please use this thread for questions, registering interest, excuses in advance and any other stuff you may have regarding this popular event.

Some additional night shooting rules: 1. The torch on your gun is only for using down range - we don't want any 'sweeping' by using your gun to navigate to/around/from the course. 2. So bring an extra torch, headlight, etc. for use while you are standing/walking around the site 3. Wear something reflective, so you can be seen, hi vis vests are available on site to use. 4. New members who do not have their own weapons, please give us fair warning you are coming, so we can get you a suitable weapons system in place. Bring something hot to drink and food should you wish to dine out. This type of shooting has always gone down with the membership and has been an enjoyable event to those that take part. Plus you still get Pub time at the end of the night. Sunday's day shooting is still on for all to enjoy as well.

A small amount of course preparation is needed - paint & oil the targets and put out the glow sticks at each peg. I'll take the opporchancity to cut back the tree that has fallen over the firing line rope (targets 9/10). The more people, the less time it'll take, while also sparing some of the walking by old legs. Nobody wants to be shot while painting & oiling the targets around the 'Valley of Doom'; let common sense prevail by no shooting on either the top or bottom course while the work is being done. Selfish morons people who do decide to shoot will have their parentage question and told to go forth and multiply be asked to stop. The BBC weather forecast (if you trust it - no? me neither) shows about a 25% chance of light rain at 8pm. As it is almost dark by 5pm, would everyone be ok to start then?

A 26yd zero or a 30yd zero in daylight shooting with no breeze and no incoming tide would probably make no difference to my score, add to this the darkness and it may improve my score.

I seem to remember that you have proved, in previous dark shoots, that you can kill em without a torch, radar or ESP may be your secret, but the rest of us will need a torch. Lets face it, most of us can`t kill em in daylight

At last, Fame an Fortune, I am Paul wiv the 26yd shed. This ain`t about the score, it`s about enjoying yerself and havin a laugh, if it was serious we would all turn up with Military Grade night vision, I, for one, am not prepared to Mortgage me House ( even with 26yd shed ) to afford such fripperies Just come along Ian and enjoy Paul

Just to confirm The start time is 5pm but what time would you want helpers to turn up? About midday would be good. If the job gets finished in time paultheengine, Chris387 and I (bugger, not getting into that again, Who?) will leave site for some food and drink before returning in good time for the safety brief. Thank you for helping, it’ll make it more sociable and quicker to get finished.

My obviously dysfunctional brain keeps telling me that spending my Saturday night covered in mud, surrounded with darkness, dampness and coldness will be more fun than having beers, a hot meal and a good movie in a warm home. Would there be another rifle in .177 with a scope and a light available?
