Waulkmill open day for GARC Members and their families – 3rd July 2022
You may have thought it wasn’t going to happen after it was threatened for so long. But finally
3rd July Open day at Waulkmill
Traditionally members begin to gather some time around 9-10am; but no pressure, turn up when you like.
There’s the newly constructed ‘Top’ course, set up on ground we haven’t been to for a number of years. It also uses many of the new HFT targets we invested in. In all the excitement of the Top course, don’t forget the ‘Bottom’ course. Both have been used for rounds of the UKAL competition and offer subtly different challenges.
But don’t go thinking it is all serious, sure you’ll see some top notch shooting, but you’ll also hear lots of mickey taking and see lots of targets missed.
In addition, there is a plinking area, as well as a place to shoot a few silhouette targets without going onto the HFT courses and even a few 10m rifle/pistol targets.
If more than 10 people say they’ll come along, there’ll be a free BBQ and soft drinks. To help us guestimate the amount of food, please let garc.secretary@gmail.com know if and how many of you will be enjoying Waulkmill.
Don’t forget, this is shooting in the woods, with slopes, tree roots, grass, dirt and wildlife, so maybe no Sunday finest – oh and the targets can’t see or hear you, so camo really isn’t necessary, and laughter is good.
Range fee is £5 (for each person shooting) for the whole day.
See you there (directions are on the website).

The few minutes of light rain didn't spoil the day, it happened when we were eating and either inside the (grandiosely named) 'clubhouse' or under the gazebo.
Seventeen people were shooting, a shame there wasn't more, but I think everyone enjoyed the day - I did.

17 is a pretty good turn out considering we only managed 24 for an actual competition a couple weeks back. Now all you've got to do is get them to come back again

Oh that we now had here. But one ten thousand of those members in GARC that do no work to-day! From this day to the ending of the world, we in it shall remember!!! - THE Waulkmill Open Day.
We few, we happy Waulkmill few , we band of air gun brothers; For he to-day that shoots his pellets with me, shall be my brother. Be he never so vile, this day shall gentle his condition; And gentlemen in Denwood now a-bed, Shall think themselves accursed they were not here, and hold their Daystates cheap whiles any speaks, that they shot with us upon a Waulkmill open day.
If we are marked to get food sickness , we are endow to do our country loss. And if to live? The fewer men, the greater share of barbeque. God's will! I pray thee, wish not one member more that does not uplift our club. By Jove, I am not covetous for first place. It yearns me not if men our garments wear. Such outward things dwell not in my desires. But if it be a sin to covet Cheese Burgers..... Rather proclaim it members of GARC, through our internet host, That he which hath no stomach to this event, let him depart; His passport shall be made, and empty pellet tins for convoy put into his purse; We would not shoot in that man's company, that fears his fellowship to shoot with us. For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more! This day is call'd the feast of open day. He that outlives this day, and comes safe home, will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd, and rouse him at the name of open day. He that shall live this day, and see old age, will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours, and say "To-morrow is open day. Then will he strip his sleeve and show his air arms, and say "These dents I had on open day. Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot, but he'll remember, with advantages, what feats he did that day. Then shall our names, familiar in his mouth as household words- Harry the King, Bill & Paul, Steve and Robert, Chris and Terri- Chris & Steff, Nick and Colin, Paul and Tracey, Abbey and Maha, Jim and his wife, David and Dave, George and Bob the Hare, being in their flowing cups freshly remembered. This story shall the good man teach his sons; And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by, From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered- Almost a quote from Henry V
It was a great day indeed, very enjoyable with good company and hot barbeque. I almost feel sorry for those of you who didn't turn up. It wasn't all about shooting but socialising with club members as well. Hopefully we will have another social later on in the year. Meanwhile my thanks to all that took part, to those that arranged it and the work put in to give me and hopefully others an enjoyable, top notch day. Thanks to Steve and Robert for doing the cooking and providing the barbeque gills.
