Operator error has revealed a characteristic in the design of my air rifle.
A case of the classic observation “we can design it to be foolproof, but not idiotproof”!
While using a magazine, I inadvertently left the bolt in the fully retracted position before pulling the trigger. Embarrassingly I’ve done this many times before! but this time it caused a problem. Don’t know about the design of other pcp rifles, but with my rifle the blast of compressed air blew the pellet backwards towards the hole in the breech block (through which the probe retracts). The diameter of this hole is marginally larger than the size of a pellet, but this time everything aligned and the pellet passed through the hole into the breech and stopped the probe/bolt from moving.
Is there a pcp rifle that cannot be fired if the bolt/lever hasn’t been closed?

The other problem is that there is a pin that protrudes from the bolt on some rifles that pulls the hammer back to the cocked position, when the bolt is closed, this pin is swivelled out of the way of the hammer, if bolt is not closed hammer can hit pin at speed and bend it forward, this results in the bolt then closing into the breech in a slightly rearwards position and may blow the breech O ring. Hey, if it was easy, every body would be a top shot
