Pre-COVID19 Chris W ran some very entertaining oddball, one-night-only fun comps at Denwood. Is anyone interested in doing similar again.
I have a bunch of cheap ping-pong balls that it might be fun to chase down the 50m range - maybe furthest moved with x number of shots, or least number of shots to get it past 30yds. Or maybe a three gun comp (pcp, spring, pistol) with everyone using the same Club guns?
Anyone have any ideas?

Will not the pellets pass through the ping pong ball when hit, oh wait I forgot you said Denwood! They will never be hit with that bunch of marksmen?

Chasing ping-pong balls down the range sounds like fun; maybe turn it into mini golf by placing a can as a hole. |

I'm bringing the ping-pong balls tonight (10th April) and will leave them for general use.
It should be obvious without saying, they are for use on the outdoor range only (due to the concrete floor in the indoor range and the potential for damage to back boards, walls and ceiling)

Chasing ping-pong balls down the range was indeed fun; with the grass adding some additional challenges. Furthermore, chasing ping-pong balls can be done with a rifle or pistol.
While it’s possible to include varying degrees of difficulties, we could start off with a rifle competition chasing a ping-pong from the 10-yard line to the 25-yard with whomever concludes with the least shots wins.
Will prep the lanes on the left next week; and whomever wants to have a try can have a go.

Had a go at the ping pong balls with various pistols last night. There's definitely the potential for some fun there.  However, a bit of my brain is thinking about the most effective gun for the job. Apart from the complete and utter overkill of Steve L using a prism scoped, laser beam accurate DS Pulsar against a ping pong ball at 10m, I have to wonder if a (very) low powered 0.22 would propel one of the balls up the field further than a higher velocity 0.177 which might penetrate straight through without imparting much forward motion. Discuss. |

Only one way to find out; will try it out next week with 0.22 and 0.177 (both rifles).

Jim and I had a ping pong ball "shoot out", chasing a ping-pong from the 10 to the 25-yard line with whomever concludes with the least shots wins.
Lessons learned from this evening's ping pong ball shooting:
1. Unlike a .177 (which only damages it) a 0.22 destroys a ball at 10 yards (it split)
2. There are hidden "holes" on the lane, resulting (combined with the grass) the balls going out of sight.
3. If the grass is to long it hides the ball and provides too much friction. After several hits the ball’s deformity adds additional friction.
4. The friction results in a high ammo consumption.
5. Despite the above it is still fun.
