We are ALWAYS nice to each other, hey we carry guns! Yes we were all beaten by Teri but that`s cos she is a good shot, not because er ormones is different cos most of us don`t really care. Judy (or should I say your honour)Please come to Waulkmill and shoot, you will be warmly welcomed and treated as one of the lads, just ask Teri.

Sunday 20th October 2019. O that we now had here, But one ten thousand of those men in Denwood that do no work to-day!
From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered — We few, we happy Waulkmill few, we band of Air gun brothers; For he to-day that sheds his pellets with me, shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, this day shall gentle his condition; And gentlemen in Aberdeenshire now a-bed, Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here, and hold their Daystates cheap whiles any speaks, that shot with us upon a Waulkmill day. Almost a quote from Henry V Nippy, I should say so, the first coolish day of autumn hit Waulkmill and us few, who turned up for a shoot and spent much of the morning on the zeroing range or in the Club Igloo. There wasn't any snow or rain, just dam nippy on the exposed hands or other parts that our shooters wished to display to the elements. I mention this because one of our club members has come out of the closet and declared that he, who or what ever he formerly called himself is a fine weather shooter and the thought of walk into the woods, hand in hand with Cher may not be the most romantic moment he has had with this well known HW110. However by midday all of us penguins had warmed up, removed our wrappers and a trip to the top course was on. Chris M bravely taking his Relum open sight beastie (Ha-ray), Teri armed with her Hw 100 (silent), myself, Steve and the FM shooting PCP with scopes. No score cards were kept, but fun was had as always with this crowd of harden outdoor types and with just a little wind to throw us off with some of the shots taken. This week coming Sunday will sort the men from the boys as an open sight comp is on for those of you who wish to try this ever increasing air rifle shooting sport, the course is also open for normal shooting as well, so hopefully we will see you there. Winter is coming!! and a night shoot is being planned as well, details to be posted nearer the time.

Just bin an painted top course in ORANGE,with the welcome assistance of WHO? An just to confuse everybody we put out additional targets, this is to help the poor old souls who can`t afford a scope. So if there are two strings at the firing position, you will have an EASY target and a HARD target,Shoot either or both but record the score of only one of em. There should be three of these double targets on the top course, up to you to suss em out, clue is they are on the far end of the reset strings. I might be late or not there at all on Sunday, got a mate coming over from Skye an don`t know what he is doing yet,So enjoy and I will see you soon DON`T FORGET TO ALTER YER CLOCKS

It’s not the 12th July, so it must be a visit from the Dutch Royal Family. Beware the single yellow target; my sense of symmetry is offended, manifesting a physical tic of unsettlement. ***Update, the yellow target is now resplendent in it newly acquired coat of orange paint - I rest easy***

Sunday 27th October. Orange and Lemons Open sights competition. Jackpot!!! At last a pure only open sights comp to be held at Waulkmill, and with a good turn out by Team Waulkmill. However, and on this day it was a however day for some, the weather was not at it best with the amount of rain that was falling, and the coldness of the morning that was nippy to the hands and face. For this event the targets that are normally coloured lemon/yellow, had been painted orange to aid the visibility for aiming with open sights in the darker areas that make up the top course, and it worked better than hoped for. All targets could be seen clearly without the aid of a scope.....also 4 new targets had been put out, giving a total of 34 oranges to take a shot at on this fruitful day and none of us would look like lemons at the close of play. Well that was the plan? After many cups of tea and coffee, it was time to get the ball rolling, but the removal of the lemons from the top course had made its mark with some members of this shooting party. It would seem that most of the lemons had moved into the club hut and these lemons!, who are part of Team Waulkmill! wimped out of facing the rain. king Billy would turn in his grave, out of eight shooter only three stepped forward to take on the orange wildlife of Waulkmill. Steve L, Chris M and Chris W are all now Waulkmill Superhero's!! If paulthengine had not been at a prearranged engagement, I am sure the three would have been four. As for the rest of you...Shame Shame, and you know who you are! So us three suited up to face the elements and said our farewells in true Capt Oats style " We are going outside and maybe anyway for some time", battling our way to the top course the rain fell and all were getting wet. But wait, the rain stopped and the clouds cleared, the good Lord must have smiled on us three, and a window of good weather started right at target one and would last until target 34. It should be pointed out at this stage that my two comrades in arms had talked me out of using my beloved S200 with open sights. And instead I was to use a Webley Vulcan that had just the day before been fitted with a new seal and spring and only tested for power at 11.2lbs but not zeroed. After the event I have to ask myself "Why did I agree to it?" But fairs fair this was now an old gun open sight comp with the other two rifle's being Steve's 1925 BSA model S (common as muck) and Chris M 1970,s Relum. Well we three had a ball, and I can say that it was one of the worst shoots I have had in many a year, but also one of the most enjoyable as all our performances on this day were not that far apart and the banter sportsmanship was first class. Targets did fall and many stayed up, some were left in perfect condition for the next shoot, did you known that an orange is the same shape as a zero, three of us can confirm that fact now. The winner was Chris M and the best shot of the day won, while his other two comrades came second and third. "Shut it lemons", you didn't shoot and therefore didn't getting a placing (Wimps). Pictured here is clearly a safety violation as Steve L is caught letting one off and not in the direction of the targets?? Phew he's blown the leaves off the trees, and flatten Chris's hat. After dinner, a second round was called for and Colin T (Lemon second class) keenly joined the superhero's and again a fine round was had by all, thanks again to our good Lord above, as he performed the same weather trick as he had for the comp round. Colin T (Bless him) remember him from the HFT shoot, the man who put a dent into the bottom course. Well he tried again to do the same thing but this time on top course, (Hippo alert stay up hill). But remember when shooting outdoors - slips trips and falls don't just happen in the work place, be careful my fellow shooters. It was truly a fine day for those who managed to face the elements, a poor day for wimpy lemons. Well done Chris M Look at the photos! Does the weather look that bad, (Wimps)
