Well its been some time since a mention of this wonderful place has happen. However life has continued to go on and I hope to catch up with what's going on at Waulkmill in the next few posts. Dam this covid 19 bug. So to start with, here is a post of two new club members. Meet Alan & Arran who started coming to walkmill in the late summer and are as regular as you can be. This is a family thing, Arran aged 7 1/2 is keen to shoot with his dad.... Alan, you can see that Arran is not able to shoot a full size rifle yet, so I had lent him one of my old Diana Mod 16 dated from 1936 with open sights. Dad does get to shoot as well if his son allows him! This little lad as skill, and could be in the years to come, Garcs top shot. The target was out to 16 yards and Arran performed better with my mod 16 than I would have . A true little trooper and cracking shot too, well done young Arran. Well done Sir!!

Waulkmill Jan 2020 before Covid 19Well what a year it has been, so here is a catch up on the early days of this year. Black Tony started all off at Denwood by saying we're doomed, we're doomed and most of us didn't believe him! How wrong were we? The year started at Waulkmill in January with an old spring gun open sight shooting comp, the weather was perfect mainly due to the very mild winter we were blessed with. A great turn out was had and fun was had by all, unless you were in the comp! Yes as much as we like the relaxed competitions, human instincts take over and you want to do you best or in other words win! The scores on the doors have passed into time now, with the exception of who came first, who used one up-manship and any highlights of the day. Steve L turned up with his pistol and dually entered into the swing of things, hitting many of the targets (a bit to many for my liking! with a pistol) including knock downs (barr humbug). Steve managed all shots using the kneeling or standing position only (this man is no roll over) and missed only few, but far less than what was expected much to his and my surprise. Steve was my shooting partner this day, so no pressure then pistol against a rifle on a HFT course?.....it was a close run thing. Steve can claim to be the winner of the open sights....pistol on this fine day (well done Sir). We both had a good day and laugh, which is what it is all about. Colin Thompson ( sorry Colin, I nearly forgot your instruction to me, that I have to take the P out of your name, and I will try) Colin Thomson used his .22 mark 3 Webley. As some of you know, it is a rule that should any open sight weapon shooter score a knock down, then a loud cheer should be put up by the witness to this event, this should then be joined in by all others on the course as a sign of well done (its an open sight shooter thing). Colin is always at his best when roaring like a lion to show support ( don't stand next to him when he roars its like being next to a foghorn), some say that he is just a big noisy pussy....cat. However a better person to go around a course with is much harder to find and will keep you on your toes. Throughout this Covid 19 outbreak, it has been mainly Colin and his gang of cubs who have worked on keeping the courses up to standard for shooting (Thank you). Oh and on this occasion, Colin did not fall over as reported in many other events at Waulkmill, no holes to fill in so far. Chris Malcom, pictured here putting a .22 cork into his cometa 300, proved to be the best shot of the day against those who entered this old spring gun comp. Its is to his credit that whenever he brings out this wee beastie in open sights .22 spring rifles, he is normally the best shot of the day in this class, or are the rest of us that bad? Well done Chris and well done to all that took part....a great day out.
