Hi guys, has anyone any experience on using slugs as opposed to pellets? I've just came across a British manufacturer of "the best airgun slugs in the world" which are designed for sub 12 rifles, still trying to find onfo on their weight but has anyone tried anything simular in the past and how did you find the accuracy?

Hi there, I've recently been given a bumper selection of assorted slugs (and a few pellets) to try in my new rifle.
It's going to take me some time to see what works both with this rifle and at what power level (it's an FAC-capable rifle, albeit with three sub-12 power levels available out of the box). ...so I'll report back at some point, but you'll have to be patient.
As for using slugs in a sub-12 rifle I wouldn't waste your time/money. Slugs are generally both much heavier and more expensive than pellets and are designed for FAC rifle use, so a complete waste of time sub-12. Cheers. Russ

From what I've read, slugs have been driven by the American market with higher muzzle energy. But, Chris has indicated the ones he is asking about have been designed for sub 12 rifles. They will have to be good to be more accurate than the carefully selected 'batch number' JSB; maybe their real benefit is retained energy or less affected by wind due to their ballistic coefficient. It can't hurt to try some? Who is the British manufacturer? Not sure what to make of this. Would have liked to see what the muzzle energy was and what group size he gets with pellets www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja5iGm7Pglk a bit more and here's something with pellets www.youtube.com/watch?v=zONEN17gmHo

Those are the ones being pushed by Highland Outdoor just now, the stock has been decimated but I'll ask at my local gun store to see if they have any samples. Everyone must be wanting to try them out!

We know about the Goldilocks nature of barrel/pellet relationship in accuracy. It seems by this www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpMTHIvygEQ (no, I didn't spend over an hour of my life watching all of it - flicked to pertinent bits instead) that it is the same for slugs, and not quite as clean cut as "slugs are not for sub 12fpe". Anyway, I'm off to the shooting tunnel to put some JSB Exact, batch 51110018 through my Daystates.

I’ve been using several slugs from pro hunter swaging,……the sub 12ft/lbs in .177 are just over 10 grain and shoots well from my daystate airwolf mct, very accurate at 25/30 yards, and is my “go to” for pest control. The .22 I’ve found are reasonably so, but I’ve had much better accuracy using h & n baracuda match with my air arms s410. My Fac daystate airwolf does not like any slugs and my preferred pellet is once again h&n baracuda match. I cannot fault the .177 10 grain slugs from pro hunter, and would say to all it’s worth trying on a normal rifled barrel. Forgot to say,…they are quite expensive but the quality is superb, come in a felt bag, clean as a whistle & just need a drop of pellet lube before your shooting
