Good afternoon team, I hope you are all hale and hearty. Over the festive period I had a whim to buy new silencers for my guns, the current units are no-name.
As usual these days my first port of call was the www to see what was available. After an extensive search it dawned on me that I had no useful information that would enable me to differentiate one from the other, only qualitative info like quiet, whisper etc, compared to what?
Nothing about the level of moderation in terms of db or frequency, for that matter were any of them better than what I had?
What I am going to do with my present set up is to shoot 5 rounds from my guns without any silencer, and then five shots with the silencer. Using the proverbial app on my phone I should get some comparative data. I will also chrono the shots. As part of the exercise I will strip one of the silencers and play around with various internals, I’m sure you have all seen the YouTube’s on modifications.
I know to do a scientific job you would need an anechoic chamber and a calibrated sound meter and standard muzzle energy but I just want a rough and ready comparison.
I also noticed that if I bought the said silencer it needs to be delivered to an RFD, is there such a person in Aberdeen.

George, you're right in thinking that there's more to it than just using a mobile app. Sound perception and measurement are complicated things and I can only add that putting a SAK silencer/moderator (I don't really care what they should be called) made a big difference to my AA400S and a huge difference to my CO2 powered CP1 pistol.
The rifle noise output was reduced to a dull "phutt" which wouldn't cause too much alarm downrange but the revelation was the CP1 which became all but silent, the only noise coming from the pistol's mechanical internals which, most likely, could only be heard by the shooter. In fact, it was so quiet that the sensation of actually having fired the thing was completely missing.
This was too cold and clinical for me so I fitted an old (1980s) 0.25 calibre simple steel silencer (the sort that just has a few washers inside to create baffles) and this took the edge off the noise but still left enough sensation of firing.
Don't think that'll be much help to you but just my two cents worth.

You raised a good point about a no noise shoot, this is probably undesirable in most cases. I once had a single pump pcp, a Mohawk I think, I had it tuned by John Bowkett, when it fired it was like something out Of your typical spy movie, just a soft putt, very unimpressive.

RFDs: Anderson Guns - Aberdeen Sloans - Inverurie Henderson's - Turriff
There may be more, and there will be some South of Aberdeen, I've just not used them.
Can't disagree with BTH re Weihrauch for effectiveness. The only airguns I have that are silenced are the HW110 and BSA Ultra (both have HW silencers), none that don't have silencers are that loud anyway.
I don't shoot pest so can't speak to the absolute need for a silencer in that situation. But measuring the sound at the target will get a better idea if a silencer is needed or not.
