Update on the "dress rehearsal": In addition to the spinners set up at variable ranges, they were repainted and placed with the smallest at close range and the bigger ones further down the range.
Under the current light conditions (after sunset with artificial lights at 19.00), the spinners beyond 40m turned out to be more challenging than under daylight conditions (at 17.00 with no artificial lights).
If we want to level the playing field (as much as possible without adding any other restrictions), then the findings of the "dress rehearsel" suggests that the competion should take place under the same light conditions.
What were the scores like? How many had a go?
Has the Denwood start time changed? I remember Denwood being 18:00 (6pm) to 21:00 (9pm), is the reference to 17:00 (5pm) just a 24hr clock error?
Denwood opening times did not change; its still the same: 18.00 to 21.00. I opened, the 50m range, early in order to assess the spinner visibility during daylight and darkness with artificial light.
As it was a "dress rehearsel" no official scores were taken. Having said that, 10 out of 10 (2 shots at each of the 5 spinners at varying ranges) is achievable.
Using a torch (although it was not gun mounted) proved did indeed to negate the problem.
