Morning all, my magazine Editor Dave has been asked my a reader to see if we (I) can do an article on a new discipline to me: supported 10m air pistol. It is also available for rifle shooters... For those unaware, I've attached a small .PDF which explains and presents the rules. I like the idea of encouraging more members to try 10m pistol, including those with physical issues, who don't find it easy whether through age or disability (like me). Those of us who tried 10m pistol this year, whether the 'Pistol' league (think Borg, with or without fancy shooting glasses) or the Open league (any pistol, any sights, one- or two-handed stances allowed) -really enjoyed the challenge and the competitive banter, but were disappointed so few of our fellow members took part. This new 'supported pistol' league idea could level the playing field a bit, and could hopefully encourage those with even shakier arms than me, to have a go. What do you all think? Cheers. Russ

I'd give it a crack in addition to the other competitions.
Assuming we run other competitions...
Personally, I find that shooting from a chair, table and rest gets pretty boring pretty quickly - a degree of challenge and difficulty is required to keep things interesting.
But, each to their own.

I'm working on the assumption this will mostly be shot standing with air pistols, with an adjustable-height rest (yet to be designed, but you and I already did some thinking at the 10m range and I'm sure we can come up with something both suitably adjustable and stable). But for anybody unable to shoot standing (or who prefers not-to), the choice is theirs. Cheers. Russ Ps. If someone able-bodied entered and chose to sit to shoot rested, and scored 98/100 without much effort - we'd apply some sort of handicap I'm sure.

Russ At each AGM I've been to, there has been encouragement for members to organise formal or informal competitions. If you are willing to organise, set up, run, clear up and report, there is no reason why we cannot try this discipline. Like all other competitions, it will have to run alongside and be considerate of the other users of the range.

I like the idea of it, I use a monopod for an SLR camera with a rifle yoke on it when I'm outdoors, saves the tremor affecting the positioning and its easily adjustable for terrain or shooter size.
There is bound to be a bit of reticence but if it allows those usually excluded to shoot then I'm all for it.
