Good morning all, despite being a loyal and enthusiastic club member, I'm not very enthusiastic for attending tonight's AGM, largely because it's been chosen for a night we're not supposed to be inside?!?!? ...plus I have a lot to do, urgently reviewing a rifle and several scopes. Also if I may make an observation going from several years' experience, these things often run on, and on. I help my wife run a stall at an Aberdeenshire craft fair (FOCUS group = Focus On Crafts Unique to Scotland, around 60 members), and they held their AGM a month or two ago... - It was held in one of the Town Halls used for craft fairs, on the same morning as a fair(!)
- Everyone set-up their stalls half an hour early that morning, and meanwhile chairs were set-up beside the stage for the AGM.
- They covered all the points we cover in ours (previous minutes, finances, election of committee members, membership fees going ahead, etc, etc).
- The whole AGM was over within half an hour.
- Just ten minutes later the doors opened to the public - result!
...just saying. I'm not saying I won't attend tonight, but it should obviously be held indoors on a night we have the use of the indoor facilities... and please let's keep it short and sweet, we're all here to shoot (and talk shooting), not to sit in meetings. Cheers. Russ Ps. Shameless plug: the next FOCUS group Craft Fair is this Saturday, free entry 10am-4pm in Crathes village hall ( AB31 5JN), not to be confused with the permanent shops within Milton of Crathes, or this Fri/Sat/Sun Crathes Castle Craft and Food Fair, which is more bling and £2.50/head for entry.

I'm on the understanding that the AGM tonight will be held under cover on the outdoor 50m range.
In the cold and poor light.
I recall that other Clubs have used the indoor Clubhouse for their AGMs on our designated Wednesday evenings.
Nothing to stop us doing the same surely as sauce for the goose...

Yep and it's due to be dry but cold and breezey again tonight from 7pm... Please let sanity prevail and lets hold this indoors (either tonight or next Wednesday). If anyone's personal risk profile (e.g. covid-related) makes them uneasy, they can wear a mask (as my wife and I did for months whenever we were indoors in public, long after 95% of citizens stopped wearing them), simples. Cheers. Russ

Holding it inside would make it a far more enjoyable affair, just my tup-pence worth.
As for speed of proceedings that is usually down to the Chair running the meeting and associated procrastination on required procedures.
Our IAM one took about an hour and we had some bunch of gas bags, I often lost the will to live about obtaining proposers and seconders for buying tea bags.

Evening all, my apologies if my OP (first post) came across as a bit belligerent, that honestly wasn't my intention. I just got a real bee in my bonnet about not wanting to be sat outside in the cold for a few hours.
Happy shooting all, and thank-you to everyone on the committee, both outgoing and incoming (claps).
Cheers. Russ

Thanks again to all who took the time to attend last night, to the committee (and the many helpers) for all their largely unsung background work, which keeps our awesome club running.
Thanks to those who stepped up to offer help from here onwards, your injection of new blood will both be invaluable going forwards, and will help ease the load on those who've been doing it all up to this point.
The AGM was held indoors in the end (albeit announced at the last minute), who knows if attendance might have been greater had this been announced beforehand, or if too many are simply not interested if asked to do something other than just attend and shoot(?)
All the best, cheers. Russ

Yes, the AGM was excellent and I feel sorry for those who didn't attend.
The buffet was very good (an especially fine champagne, I thought) although the caviar didn't last long. We'll know to get more for next year.

Oh dear, it's a shame that you couldn't have been so honest in some of your air gun reviews! This new out burst of compassion & honesty would have saved me a fortune in some of your recommendations on buying kit.
My thanks to the outgoing and incoming committee for the hard work done in the past and for the future. A thankless job - as shown on this forum by some and only posted in the 11th hour to the start to the AGM. This is a once-a-year event. With e-mails about the meeting having been around since the last AGM and the notification of this year's AGM dually sent within the month leading up to it and reminders in last few weeks. Which gave time enough for any concerns to be addressed by members of the club with our elected committee, should these issues have been raised beforehand, and not on the morning of the meeting. This subject was not even bought up at the AGM on the night. An unwarranted & unnecessary moan on a public forum with poor timing and no follow up by him I shall not name, as he is a bunny killer.
A Big thank you to Bri & Steve for all that you have done over the years as committee members (and that is more than most members know). The pair of you deserve a break and can now sit back and have a moan or two on the house - Thank you for your service as the Jack Rabbits would say.
I also agree with Bri, the food was great, but was not too keen on the starter, after meeting drinks went down well, however having Chris Ward as the stripper in drag was too much.

Point of order Russ: The range was open for shooters who do not wish to take part in the AGM on an AGM night, I got that changed many years ago and nowhere has it been said that while the AGM is taking part, shooting is to stop. The AGM is a chance to do a yearly review of the actions / events in the club and bring up ideas ect for the good of the club and election of a committee as voted by the membership, as well as having a say in what they think is important and direction the club should follow. For those of you who can't attend, there is nothing to stop that person from e-mailing any questions to be bought up on the night in advance of the meeting. No one is forced to attend.
PS. I didnt strip!!! it was just too hot in the club house, and while removing some clothing to cool down my legs turned to jelly, and it looked like I was dancing

Apologies, I was on-call and couldn’t make it. Nothing to present, but grateful to all involved, past and present for their efforts to make the club a safe and successful place for everyone who attends.

Yes, Yes with so much self / club promotions going on at the moment, I thought I would jump on the band wagon as well. My little animal K9 friend at waulkmill, a King Charles has knighted me this morning by post and a wag of his tail. This should keep his Worshipful, The Field Marshal of Waulkmill (Paul the Engine) in check, when talking about stone cutting tools. However, reports of "His worshipful the Field Marshall" (if you're on first name terms with him) continue to filter through that he has been seen (again) riding the Waulkmill donkey, maybe in an act to gain a more Godley position in his elevation to " His Worshipful". Jesus rode his donkey side saddle, our H.W. T. F.M of Waulkmill rode his more in a honey bunny style, bless him. Guess I now have opened up Hare baiting season? Oh dear me, my ears are burning.

Well, that clears things up and "Hey Big Spender" being played loudly at the same time was obviously just an unfortunate coincidence.
On another note, who knew that Dave and Mike had such good singing voices? Excellent baritones and a great rendition of The Pirates of Penzance. They'll be a bonus to the committee. And let's not forget Nick H's 20 minute standup routine - one of the highlights of a very memorable AGM.
Can't wait for the next one!

Yes indeed, great singing voices by Mike & Dave? Not a single ship ran aground that foggy night off the coast of Aberdeen. The Northern Lighthouse Board are currently in talks with this singing duo as to doing a tour of the Shetland Islands during these winter months. Steve Ludlow's classical dance routine from the Sugar Plum Fairy as he went through the front door, was a joy to behold. The weight of the world seemed to have been lifted from his shoulders.
