I overheard the comment "that targets a given". I thought about it and considered, Yes, it was a given, providing:
1) you can estimate distance
2) you spent time to find out the holdover/under
3) you remember your holdover/under
4) you correctly gauged the wind, allowed for it and it hasn't changed
5) your gun/pellet are behaving and can hold a suitable group to start with
6) you don't get a 'flyer'
7) your shooting skills give a group smaller than the hit size
8) your 'hold' is good and you didn't slip
9) your trigger technique is good
10) you zero'd your scope correctly and you haven't knocked it
11) the target is not at min or max range where it is out of focus
12) you can physically get a comfortable and stable shooting position
13) your shooting position means you can have your gun butt and forward hand resting on the shooting mat
14) you aren't in the majority of shooters who miss now and again
Yeah, that target was a given. Hmm, so how the hell was there a few pellet strikes on the faceplate?
