...has just got better. Just have to get use to shooting it ‘thumb-up’ as the sight is where my thumb normally wraps around the neck.

Like it!
Any pics of how you fitted the sight into the stock?

Well by the way Who had written about some fears in starting this job and by his description, it may have started like this? Good idea about the thumb sticking up, if placed up you nose it will help steady your aim, very much like a sling around your arm. Nice looking gun with new sights fitted. Well done Sir!! does the standard back sight interfere with using the peep sight in lining up the foresight or is it set for volley fire at 25yds plus? I have a few old girls fitted with peep sights by BSA and only come into their own if the barrel sights are sighted to 20 yrds (so v notch in a low position) and the peep sights zeroed to 25 yrds plus, which then allows me to look over the barrel rear sight. Keep us informed as this is very interesting for us old granny shooters.

Balls. I wrote an in depth reply last night, only to see this morning I didn't post it! The peep sight base is curved, the radius is smaller than the diameter of the stock's neck, I sanded a piece of walnut to fill the gap. To get the sight in the correct place I first centred the elevation and windage adjustment, then passed a length of fishing nylon through the peep sight hole and pulled it tight to front sight. I then moved the peep sight until the fishing nylon showed it, the rear and front sights were all aligned. With the peep sight mounting holes marked on the masking tape i has stuck to the stock, I drilled 1mm holes in the stock. After screwing the peepsight to the stock I applied the Renaissance wax and the job's a good'un. I'll post some close up pics I wound the rear sight V-notch down - it is still visible, but you just ignore it. The effect of the peep sight is (i) for me, to bring the front sight into focus and (ii) ensure the eye position is the same every time - the peep hole is >1mm diameter.

Nicely done!
Drilling stocks always fills me with apprehension so I can imagine what it felt like to do this.

Nicely done! Drilling stocks always fills me with apprehension so I can imagine what it felt like to do this. I was more relaxed shoving the HW30 stock through the bandsaw than I was drilling two tiny holes in the granny.
