Today, I put a new set of bands on a Black Widow catapult (bear with me on this)... The definition of a low-powered "air weapon," for licensing purposes in Scotland is: > All low-powered air weapons with a muzzle energy exceeding 1 joule (0.74 ft/lbs), but below 12ft/lbs (16.27 joules), or 6ft/lbs (8.13 joules) for an air pistol. So anything over 0.74 ft/lbs (1 joule) requires a license. Well, after renewing the bands on my juvenile delinquent's wrist rocket, I thought I'd shoot it over the chronograph to see how much energy it produced. It duly launched an 8mm, 32-grain steel ball bearing across the chrono at 146 ft/sec: Those figures translate into 1.51 ft/lbs, or 2.05 joules of energy. That's over double the lower limit that requires a license for an air gun! And to think - we used to shoot these things at each other when we were bairns...

Today I made a jig to hold an HW30 stock and cut it on a bandsaw. I'm inserting a piece of wood to reduce the stretch from the grip to the trigger. Using some beech so I have a choice of finished wood or paint it black. Stock and insert piece have been cut and sanded flat, epoxy'ed one join, tomorrow I'll epoxy the other. Then comes the shaping and decision - stain (although I hear it is very difficult to get an even stain on beech), oiled or painted. Might put some pictures up - either that or set fire to it out of embarrassment.
May even extend the fore end by a small amount to add schnabel end. This could well be beyond my wood shaping skills though.

And why not - who doesn't like a bit of Schnabel?
Don't know if I'll manage anything airgun related today but yesterday I shot my first entry in the Postal Open Pistol competition (an underwhelming 15) and ordered a Vortek Pro Seal conversion kit (from a leather piston washer to a synthetic seal) for my Original 50.

This morning, I was at the doctor's with suspected sciatica and a potential hernia! However, I was subsequently given what was probably the best diagnosis that I could have hoped for - A trapped nerve in my spine (not the sciatic) and a torn muscle in my groin. So, today, unable to hold a decent sight-picture with a real gun, I wandered around the house, under the influence of Naproxen, Codeine and whisky, shooting flies with this bad-boy: ...like a big giant man-child! 😁

Substances and guns - a classic combination. Got to keep an eye on consumption though as you may think you're but the reality is

Glad to hear the lesser ailment diagnosis, the mind boggles what you were doing to think sciatica and hernia!

When shooting the newly acquired Walther LPM-1 PCP, it seemed to pack a bit more punch than the SSP, so today I chronoed Schrödinger's sister. A 10-shot string with washed, weighed and lubed 8-grain pellets gave an average velocity of 505.19 ft/sec, with a spread between 502 and 509 ft/sec. Average power was, therefore, 4.53 ft/lbs, so clearly higher than the SSP, which runs at 4 ft/ lbs. I then chucked a few 7-grain RWS R10 match pellets, straight from the tin, across the chrono, and saw an average of 540 ft/sec.

That's nice and fast. Bet it leaves very clean holes in the cards.

Over the last few days I've been getting fed up with the FTP900, ecstatic with the MK4is, disappointed with the HW110, having fun with the HW30s, frustrated with the HW75 and I've not touched the other pistols. I'm trying to 'grow some' to tackle fitting an old BSA #8 peep sight to the BSA Imp. Model D I'm the current custodian of. And a cant experiment garc.freeforums.net/thread/122/nerd-subject-alert

Guns? Oh, I remember them.
Since I got back into Airgunning, this is the longest I've gone without buying anything. It's at the stage where I might try and go the whole year.
Form an orderly queue to burn the heretic!

I got depressed, I shot my HW75, well I might have of got depressed if I took pistol shooting seriously! I think I need a new o-ring, even with wadcutters some of the holes looks more like someone tried to push a blunt stick through the target. I'll check it with the chrono first, just to see the effect of a new o-ring. Not that that'll improve my scores.
Also shot ten pellets with the HW30S (I'll post a picture of it in its glorious blackness) and then stopped as I didn't want to ruin a good run.
And the HW30SF at 25m'ish rested, hitting the 12mm spinners each time.
